Book The Age of Women PDF Free

The Age of Women PDF
By:Joyce Martin
Published on 2015-07-22 by CreateSpace

It is the year 2,300. After the near destruction of the planet by the rule of men, it is the Age of Women who rule over a planet returned to its natural state, a planet free of war, consumerism and pollution. However, in order to maintain their world women have stripped men of all power and keep them only for insemination and physical pleasure. Romantic love is has been banished to the archives of history. Yet, there are women like Tara who yearn for something else only to find themselves torn between the seemingly Utopian world they rule over and a return to a world of the past, a world where the balance of power between men and women is both dangerous and uncertain. This is a story full of mystery, history, sensuality and humor. But, most of all, it is a story that will challenge the reader's beliefs about contemporary issues about relationships and the ultimate question of what we will tell our children about the nature of men and women. Each reader will find themselves hating or loving the characters and their choices but in the end, they will have to ask, |Which world would I choose?|

Book The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens PDF Free

The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens PDF
By:Lisa M. Schab
Published on 2013-06-01 by New Harbinger Publications

As a teen, it is incredibly important to have self-confidence, especially when you consider societal pressures about appearance and grades. Just growing up is difficult in and of itself, and in the midst of all this life-related stress, you may not be seeing yourself clearly. In fact, you may be magnifying your weaknesses and minimizing—or even ignoring—your true assets. Psychologists believe that low self-esteem is at the root of many emotional problems. When you have healthy self-esteem, you feel good about yourself and see yourself as deserving of the respect of others. When you have low self-esteem, you put little value on your opinions and ideas, and may find yourself fading into the background of life. Without some measure of self-worth, you cannot accomplish your goals. In The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens, you will learn to develop a healthy, realistic view of yourself that includes honest assessments of your weaknesses and strengths, and you will learn to respect yourself, faults and all. You will also learn the difference between self-esteem and being self-centered, self-absorbed, or selfish. Finally, this book will show you how to distinguish the outer appearance of confidence from the quiet, steady, inner acceptance and humility of true self-esteem. The book also includes practical exercises to help you deal with setbacks and self-doubt, skills for dealing with criticism, and activities that will aid in the development of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-worth. With the right amount of self-confidence, you will have the emotional resources you need to reach your goals.

Book The handbook of aging and cognition PDF Free

The handbook of aging and cognition PDF
By:Fergus I. M. Craik,Timothy A. Salthouse
Published on 1992 by Lawrence Erlbaum

The study of age-related changes in cognitive processes is flourishing as never before, making the area an exciting one for a growing number of researchers. In addition, cognitive aging research is moving out from its traditional roots in experimental and developmental psychology -- creating increased contact with cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. To reflect these changes in the field, this volume includes chapters on abnormal aging, the neuroscience of aging, and applied cognitive psychology along with the core section on basic cognitive processes. While other recent compilations of research in this area have given relatively brief overviews of the literature, the contributors were given space to review each topic in depth, asked to evaluate the field -- not simply their own contributions -- and to provide critical commentaries from their personal perspectives. Couched most often in terms of cognitive or information-processing models, the general perspective of the contributors is a biologically-based account of aging. This shared viewpoint gives the volume particular coherence in its treatment of theories and data. Topics covered include age differences in attention, perception, memory, knowledge representation, reasoning, and language as well as their neuropsychological and neurological correlates and practical implications.

Book The New Mind Readers PDF Free

The New Mind Readers PDF
By:Russell A. Poldrack
Published on 2018-10-16 by Princeton University Press

A revealing insider’s account of the power—and limitations—of functional MRI The ability to read minds has long been a fascination of science fiction, but revolutionary new brain-imaging methods are bringing it closer to scientific reality. The New Mind Readers provides a compelling look at the origins, development, and future of these extraordinary tools, revealing how they are increasingly being used to decode our thoughts and experiences—and how this raises sometimes troubling questions about their application in domains such as marketing, politics, and the law. Russell Poldrack takes readers on a journey of scientific discovery, telling the stories of the visionaries behind these breakthroughs. Along the way, he gives an insider’s perspective on what is perhaps the single most important technology in cognitive neuroscience today—functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI, which is providing astonishing new insights into the contents and workings of the mind. He highlights both the amazing power and major limitations of these techniques and describes how applications outside the lab often exceed the bounds of responsible science. Poldrack also details the unique and sometimes disorienting experience of having his own brain scanned more than a hundred times as part of a landmark study of how human brain function changes over time. Written by one of the world’s leading pioneers in the field, The New Mind Readers cuts through the hype and misperceptions surrounding these emerging new methods, offering needed perspective on what they can and cannot do—and demonstrating how they can provide new answers to age-old questions about the nature of consciousness and what it means to be human.
